The minced yam wheat rice that has been regarded as a healthy food in Japan since ancient times should be rare in Taiwan. Its smooth and refreshing taste and its high health index are highly respected by the Japanese people. People who have tried this would most probably fall in love with its charm.

If you want to taste this Japanese national healthy food, I will introduce the Asakusa Mugitoro Honten "浅草むぎとろ", a place that only Japanese foodies would know. The lunch they provide costs only ¥1,000, with unlimited buffet of minced yam with rice and Japanese side dishes - let's find out!

Queuing crowds are mostly foodies all over Japan

The Asakusa Mugitoro Honten "浅草むぎとろ” is located near the Thunder Gate in Asakusa. It takes about five minutes to walk from the Thunder Gate. There are two restaurants not far from each other, but they are the only one that serves unlimited buffet for lunch - the one that has a white Japanese classy look on the road.

From the time they open for business at 11 o'clock, I would gradually see the crowds in the queue, mostly local foodies in Japan. There may be several groups of tourists coming to take a look during the wait, perhaps being attracted by the crowds waiting in the queue, but there are not many foreign tourists who really know the minced yam rice, and the restaurant also has mostly Japanese guests.

Asakusa Mugitoro Honten "浅草むぎとろ” has three main choices for lunch. The first floor is unlimited buffet of minced yam wheat rice, Tamagoyaki, Nimono, pickled side dishes and miso soup, which is only ¥1,000 including taxes. Please note that this is only available from 11:00 to 14:00 during weekdays. On the second and third floors, there are a variety of traditional Japanese-style set meals and Kaiseki cuisine. The top (seventh) floor serves unlimited buffet for ¥2,000, in addition to a variety of Japanese-style side dishes, there are also three different flavors of minced yam wheat rice. There are 13 different varieties of delicious side dishes on the seventh floor, plus desserts and drinks. The minced yam wheat rice has three different flavors: two Yamato yam flavored and one long yam flavored.

For those who first get to know the minced yam wheat rice, it is recommended that the first floor buffet should be enough. If you find yourself in love with this healthy food, you can enjoy the rich version buffet on the seventh floor next time.

After the staff takes guests into their seats, guests can take the minced yam wheat rice and Japanese side dishes to their dining table. A large bucket of hot rice grains is scented with elegant wheat flavor, each grain is huge and full of flavor, and when consumed, has a firm but elastic texture.

After the rice, it’s then followed by the minced yam that the restaurant prides. When you use the spoon, you can feel its excellent consistency. It would be impossible to be so thick and solid with elasticity without using the best and freshest yam. Asakusa Mugitoro Honten "浅草むぎとろ" uses the Japanese high-viscosity Yamato yam with the elegant squid soup and secret recipe, and mix it with the rice and then eat it into the mouth, with gentle smoothness and full-bodied flavored rice. The rice has a wonderful taste with a gentle and fluent Japanese style. Bites after bites - you can eat a few bowls!

After preparing the minced yam wheat rice, you can take the Nimono, Tamagoyaki, pickled vegetables and miso soup, and then pour yourself a cup of hot wheat tea to enjoy on your seat.

Nimono is rich in its content, with ingredients such as burdock, tofu, ricotta, lotus root, green beans, carrots, alfalfa, white radish, chicken and other soft and firm tasting ingredients, stewed with Japanese flavor. This introverted seasoning made it possible to reveal the original flavor of the ingredients.

When I took a bite of Tamagoyaki, I was immediately stunned by its taste, with its delicate and soft taste. - I was eating plate after plate. I have to admire the lightness of Japanese cuisine but with the endless charm. The traditional restaurant Asakusa Mugitoro Honten "浅草むぎとろ" is very impressive on these side dishes. At the same time, although I was only eating the small plates, there are limited varieties but the food is very delicate. It only took me a few trips to get the food, and I'd be full and got my money back!
